Below is some more information about the various types of labels available from Jelprint from our Luton printshop

Which Labels Can Adorn a Beer Bottle

Your packaging and it’s design are the first step toward telling your potential customers what to expect from your products. The design is the first thing that catches the eye and the material gives an impression of the quality you are delivering with your products. For beer bottles – whether it’s plastic or glass – you have the option to attach three different kind of labels on them.

Neck Label: Nice to have, but not essential. It’s a small label around the neck of your bottle. Good for indicating the uniqueness of your beverages to customers.

Back Label: It’s arguably the most important label. The back label contains all the valid consumption data like the alcoholic strength, filling quantity, producer, or expiration date.

Front Label: This one is most crucial for the performance at the point-of-sale. Your front label is the one that catches the customers’ eyes first.

Wrap-Around Label: This type of label combines both the front and back label into one; suitable for both 330ml & 500ml beer bottles and popular amongst craft breweries.

Which Shapes are Possible

As a specialised print shop for beer labels, we not only supply you with round, rectangular or oval standard formats, but also focus entirely on your wishes and specifications. There is almost nothing that is impossible when printing beer labels. Just take a look at the examples here on our website.

At Jelprint Luton we can print a range of barcodes and QR codes as standard on your roll labels, product labels and promotional stickers. Barcodes can be sent to us either directly as part of your artwork or as a separate table. For your labels with barcodes we have numerous papers and films as well as various adhesives with different properties at our disposal – permanent adhesive, removable (without residue), washable, & freezer-grade.

When Do You Need Barcodes?

Generally, if you distribute a product, then you need barcodes on your labels. However, many online retailers also require that the products have unique barcodes.

Barcode labels usually come on A4 sheets of labels with 21 labels per sheet. Other size and options are available.

QR code labels can be made to any size, dependant on your requirements.

What Are Beverage Labels?

The variety of drinks on offer, whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic, has never been as great as it is today. And new products are constantly coming onto the market. Some quickly disappear from the shelves again, others develop into scene and cult drinks with a large customer base. Success or failure depends not least on the design and high quality of the beverage labels used. If you want to stand out from the competition, you have to pay close attention not only to the quality of the product but also to its appearance. Labels for beverages are used on bottles and cans. Supplied as roll labels or sheet labels, they enable clean and quick application. This can be done manually or by machine.

Most Common Applications for Beverage Labels

Beverage labels are basically universally applicable. Beer labels and wine labels for bottles as well as labels for cans are applied to the container while the respective beverages are filled. These can be self-adhesive labels or labels that are applied using a wet glue process. The latter is mainly the case with beer labels.

The Best Materials for Beverages

As a professionally thinking and working label manufacturer, we naturally offer you an extensive selection of different materials for beer labels, wine labels, can labels and all other sorts of beverage labels. Paper in various qualities is still the most commonly used material. However, we also offer labels for beverages on films made of polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE). The foils can be coloured or transparent, depending on your wishes.

Labels for Bottles – In All Shapes and Sizes

Whether for beer, wine, spirits or lemonade – labels for bottles of all types, shapes and sizes are part of our expertise. Specialised in modern digital printing, we produce your bottle labels quickly and professionally.

Labels to Make Your Products Look Phenomenal

Printed bottle labels inform, decorate and carry not only your product’s name but also the necessary data on properties and contents, such as information on the filling quantity or ingredients. Our labels for bottles show great adhesive strength on most bottle materials.

Chest Labels, Back Labels and More

Neck bow and chest label, belly label and back label. Bottlers and beverage producers often have different types of labels printed. The neck bow and chest label – also called the belly label – are mainly used for sales promotion and optimal brand presentation. In contrast, the back label is used to print the legally prescribed information on your bottle labels, such as filling quantity, ingredients, fruit content, alcohol content, best-before date and manufacturer information.

Have Your Label Bottles Designed by Us

You don’t have any idea yet how your label should look? Then we have the solution: No matter what type, shape, or size of bottle you need a label for, with our label design service, you have the opportunity to have a label designed according to your preferences. Simply let us know what you have in mind, and we will create your label.

Custom Printed Candle Labels on Rolls or Sheets

Candles enjoy ever greater popularity. With their exclusive scents they create a feeling of luxury, in the comfort of your own home. However, unlike other luxury products, candles are not just reserved for the rich and famous.

Of course the quality of the oils and wax used in creating candles is immensely important. However, a high-value label can make all the difference between a top seller and a shelf warmer.

With this in mind, how can you make sure people will buy your product? Here are a few points we’ve found to be important to consider for successful candle businesses looking to print premium, custom candle labels.

Printing Candle Labels with Custom Shapes and Sizes

Whether you want to apply custom printed candle labels to glass jars or plastic pots, you’ll need to be able to produce the right size labels to ensure a professional, seamless fit. There is a large number of different dimensions of jars used in candle manufacturing; not just in terms of shape but also size, diameter and volume. Whichever kind of label you are going to apply, you’ll need to be able to determine the exact size. When it comes to the application of candle labels to pots, you may need a circular label made to a non-standard diameter or a square label with rounded corners. As a professional label manufacturer, we offer all custom shapes and sizes for candle labels.

Get Several Varieties in One Print Run

For businesses with a number of candle scents within their range, digital label printing offers many advantages. If the size of the labels remains the same across all varieties, we can produce all of your custom label designs in just one print run. This allows you to keep the printing process for your candle labels cost-effective. Digital label printing also allows you to have seasonal varieties printed alongside your core range. You are free to split the total number of labels produced across an unlimited number of scents. This is also useful if you have a clear best seller. Simply share a larger proportion of the overall order to this particular scent.

New to the Candle Business?

Is this new terrain for you? Don’t worry! There is plenty of information out there. The candle making community is happy to share their knowledge and experience in online forums and social media groups.

Cosmetics Labels

There are few industries where the visual appearance of packaging is as important as it is in the cosmetics industry. Any product that is designed to care for you and your appearance must “shine” at first glance. Often even in the truest sense of the word. This is not only the case for designs, with gold foils, metallic films or elegant opaque white, but also for the material quality of your cosmetics labels and the corresponding label printing.

As we at Jelprint, Luton are entirely dedicated to producing the perfect labels, we understand what our clients require for their high-quality personal-care products. Be it perfume, make-up, soaps, oils, candles or any other products designed to care for your hair, skin, body and soul. We help brands to add the finishing touch to any packaging – boxes, jars, tubes and tins – for all kinds of products. We also recommend ordering roll labels rather than labels on sheets due to their outstanding machine-processing qualities.

Roll Labels for Long-Lasting Quality

Adhesive labels for personal-care products not only need to look good, they also need to fulfil other quite stringent requirements and be resistant to various strains, without becoming unsightly. They must remain permanently adhesive and legible despite the effects of water, oils and other elements that naturally have an impact on cosmetics labels when they are handled. This is not only the case for aesthetic reasons but also because of the labelling requirements for cosmetics packaging. Our roll labels for cosmetic products guarantee that the list of ingredients will remain legible at all times and will not become damaged or faded.

Transparent No-Label-Look Labels

We can manufacture our adhesive no-label-look labels on polypropylene film. This film adapts well to uneven surfaces or the rounded sides of jars. This means that they are practically invisible to the consumer. Such cosmetics labels are often used for perfume bottles and jars of cream, as printing on film is more cost-efficient than printing directly on the jar or bottle. In this case, we would recommend that you order transparent roll labels and apply them by machine in order to avoid trapped air bubbles and the associated structural formations in the adhesive layer. Read more about clear and transparent labels here.

However, the polypropylene film does not necessarily need to be transparent and designed using the no-label-look. Of course, we are also proficient in printing on gold and silver films as well as using opaque white or embossed film finishes. If you want to find out more or would like to ensure you have the right materials from a visual and tactile perspective, simply order a free-of-charge sample book.

Paper labels are also available but not advissed for cosmetic labels.

Food Label Printing

Every type of food packaging is either printed on directly or is provided with a corresponding label – e.g. tins and jars. These can be round, square, circular or oval. Adhesive labels are usually used for freshly packaged meat products and the like, which are then marked with details about the contents, quantity and best-before date.

What Is Special about Labels for Food?

Labels for food are generally adhesive stickers such as those we are familiar with from other packaging – bottles, cans and cartons. However, special attention must be paid so the food labelling legislation is not violated. Details on this follow below. If food labels are needed for tins, for example, the printing of the labels is no different from other paper products. The situation is different for food labels on which the price, the quantity or the best-before date are printed subsequently and individually. These labels are coated with a varnish over the entire surface in the final production step to enable subsequent imprinting. We recommend that you order a test print in advance to ensure that the labels can be processed as desired.

Food Labelling Legislation – What to Pay Attention to

The basic prerequisite for food labelling is adherence to the stipulations of legislation, which of course has an impact on the materials and printing processes which can be used. For example, the visible side must not come into contact with the package’s contents. Food packaging must also not be printed on the inside. The ink used to print food labels must be able to withstand the effects of the ingredients without affecting or altering the taste, smell or appearance of the food. It follows that food labels must not release any harmful components into the food.

Freezer-Grade Labels

Not only must freezer labels be resistant to cold, they must also be resistant to moisture to a certain extent, as there will be meltwater or condensation in their vicinity. Generally, freezer labels are manufactured using film or wood-free paper and – given they are labelled when already frozen – a frost-resistant adhesive is applied. They are then suitable for temperatures as low as -20°C. Special food labels are also necessary for food containing oil or food preserved in oil so that product identification can be guaranteed if oil leaks out of the food packaging. If you have any questions on these topics, you are more than welcome to get in contact with our customer service team.

Labels for Oil

Special food labels are also necessary for foodstuffs containing oil or preserved in oil, so that the legibility of the contents displayed on the label is guaranteed even if oil leaks from the food packaging. For this case, we have an oil-repellent material in our range

Materials for Your Custom Printed Jar Labels

We offer a comprehensive range of materials for food products packaged in glass jars. The choice of label material largely depends on two factors: the product’s branding and positioning as well as functionality. We stock a range of textured papers which help brands achieve an artisanal or organic look as well as thin polymeric films for food products that contain oils. Thin Polypropylene (PP) films help to prevent stains on your jar labels.

Frequently, the profit margins associated with manufacturing and selling products in food jars may not be substantial. As a result, it is crucial for brand owners to prioritise sourcing label production in a manner that emphasises exceptional quality. In our inventory, we offer a selection of premium materials that enable brands to acquire their personalised jar labels while maintaining a focus on superior quality, all within their designated budget.

Premium Finishing on Jar Labels

For brands with exquisite designs for their premium products and limited editions, we offer premium finishing touches such as hot foil stamping and embossing. These finishes are traditionally used heavily within the wine and spirits sectors but in recent times have found their way onto artisanal products such as specialty food, candles, or honey jars. Hot foil stamping is traditionally used to add premium metallic elements to labels, usually on jar front stickers or centrally on wrap-around labels; essentially in areas that have the highest impact and create perceived value to potential customers.

Printing Custom Jar Labels Digitally

The more brands look to extend product ranges with new flavours or seasonal products, the more digital label printing comes to the fore. Digital label printing allows brands to produce labels for different products without any setup costs for printing plates. Brands can now produce labels for their core ranges whilst creating varieties for new products as well. This bears significant advantages for the production of food labels, candle labels, cosmetics labels, spice labels, you name it. So, if you choose to have your labels produced by Jelprint, Luton you get labels with an impeccable printing image at fair prices and quick delivery times.

Digital label printing also allows brands to produce personalised jar labels on rolls at scale. Recent trends have shown that brands like to print the names of customers on their labels. Personalised labels address customers in a very unique way. This can be a very efficient form of marketing.

Vape Liquid Labels – Tasteful Trend Products

Vaping, E-cigarettes, E-liquids – a trend has been goin on for years: away from the classic cigarette and towards the E-cigarette. Plus, the vaping experience can be fully customised; from selecting the appropriate E-cigarette to the perfect flavour that fully meets one’s taste. The range of different E-liquids and flavours is increasing – sometimes crazy – flavours are conquering the market. From classic vanilla to fruity flavours like melon to unusual flavours such as bubble gum or a nacho flavour.

Labels for E-Liquids - Unique Eye-Catchers

When it comes to adhesive labels for e-liquids, their flavours and the like, the bright colours and trendy designs are particularly eye-catching. The design often reflects the respective flavour of the aroma: Fruity strawberry and lime flavours use red and green, fresh menthol flavours are highlighted by light blue, and creamy vanilla flavours use pastel colours and soft colour worlds. With the right and appropriate design of the label, the taste and quality of the product can be ideally underlined and communicated to the outside world.

When it comes to labelling, however, the focus should not only be on the design: For liquids and their flavours that are produced and distributed in the UK, some guidelines for correct labelling must be adhered to. Each unit packet and any container pack must include:

A list of all ingredients contained in the product set out in descending order by weight

An indication of the nicotine content of the product and the delivery per dose

The batch number

a recommendation to keep the product out of reach of children
The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations provides you with further information on the topic of correctly labelling E-Liquids and the like.

Get Your E-Liquid Labels on Roll or A4 Sheets

By default, we print your e-liquid label as a roll label. This production method is particularly suitable if you process your labels by machine and apply them to the product automatically. For smaller print runs and manual application, production on A4 sheets can be more cost-effective.

Shape, Material and Finishing

For e-liquids of all flavours we recommend labels made of PP or PE film. These are particularly durable, resistant to oil and moisture and therefore ideally suited for products in the vaping industry.

You can also freely choose the shape and size of your label. Whether large or small, round, square or in your own custom shape – we print your label exactly according to your specifications. Tip: For small labels, we recommend a minimum size of 20×20 mm.

Our Materials

At Jelprint Luton printers we offer you a large variety of materials to print your labels on. It is important to us to meet our customers needs. That’s why we have textured papers, films and different sustainable materials for you in stock. If you want to know more about our materials and their features you can look at our material guide.

Labels for Wine in Bottles – Correct Labelling is Regulated by Law

Months of work go into every bottle of wine. And this hard work deserves a great label. Apart from the design, however, it must also be taken into account that in the United Kingdom the labelling of wine containers is strictly regulated. The mandatory elements of declaration on your wine bottle label can differ immensely depending on which kind of wine you are producing and selling.

There are distinct differences between labelling still wines and sparkling wines. Please make sure to include all necessary information on your label and comply with all requirements.

Since January 2024 a set of new reforms to the UK’s wine sector was implemented. Changes will include removing rules on bottle shapes, giving producers the liberty to use different forms and designs. This allows you to experiment with all kinds of label shapes on your wine bottles. Further, the requirement for imported wines to have an importer’s address on the label will be abolished. The Food Business Operator (FBO) responsible for ensuring all legal requirements are met will still need to be identified on the label, as is the standard requirement for food. The reforms include many other changes, but these are the most important in terms of labelling your wine.

For all those who are planning to export their wine to countries within the European Union, a new regulation has become important. From now on, information such as energy content, nutrients and allergens must be included on wine labels either in the form of a nutritional table or using a QR code.

Mandatory Information on Your Label Includes:

Provenance expression – for instance, country of origin
Relevant expression for wines with Protected Designation of Origin or Protected Geographical Indication (unless an approved Traditional Expression is used)
Type of wine – e.g. sparkling wine
Bottler’s details for still wine and the vendor’s or producer’s details for sparkling varieties
Allergens warning statement if sulphur dioxide content exceeds 10mg per litre or egg residues exceed 0.25mg per litre
You can find all further information on the correct labelling of wine on the food standards agency‘s website.

Personalised Wine Labels

Customers today want to be addressed as individually and personally as possible. Our personalised labels give you the opportunity to make your wine labels as individual as you wish. With Jelprint, Luton you can implement numerous personalisation techniques. Use different names, QR codes or even augmented reality to enhance your labels. There are no limits to your creativity!

Front Label, Back Label, Main Label…

Many quality wines usually carry three labels: the presentation label on the front, a back label on the back and a neck band. However, it is not compulsory to put these three labels on your bottle of wine. You can also put all the data and information on one label. In addition, there is the term main label. The main label must contain the information required by law and must be easy to read. If this information is on the back label, this is legally the main label.
